Chania Tourism Surges With Expanded Direct International Flight Routes

Thursday, 30 April 2026/Tornos News/1
Chania, in western Crete, is reporting a strong start to the 2025 tourism season. The deputy mayor for tourism, Nektarios Psaroudakis, confirmed to Tornos News that the year has opened with high demand, driven in part by an expanded network of direct international flights into Chania International Airport (CHQ). For visitors, this means more routing options from European cities without connecting through Athens, making western Crete more accessible than in previous years. Chania remains one of the island's most popular destinations, known for its Venetian harbor, the old town, and proximity to beaches such as Balos and Elafonisi. Travelers planning a trip this season should book accommodation and rental cars early, as strong early demand typically leads to limited availability and higher prices through peak summer months of July and August.
