Back to newsRestoration and maintenance work on the Morozini Fountain in Heraklion is scheduled to begin in September. The fountain, also known as the Lion Fountain, is one of Crete's most recognizable Venetian landmarks, located in Lions Square (Plateia Liondarion) in the heart of the city. Built in 1628 during the Venetian occupation, it features four lions at its base and has been a central gathering point in Heraklion for centuries. The upcoming works aim to preserve the fountain's stonework and restore its structural integrity. Visitors planning to visit Lions Square during September and the following months should expect the fountain to be partially or fully inaccessible while works are underway. The surrounding square and nearby cafes are expected to remain open. No end date for the restoration has been announced.
