Back to newsThe Municipality of Heraklion has put forward proposals concerning the Morozini Fountain, the iconic 17th-century Venetian landmark at the heart of Lions Square in the city center. Mayor Alexis Kalokerinos announced that a working collaboration has been established with the Greek Ministry of Culture to advance restoration and management plans for the monument. The initiative is described as moving in the right direction. The Morozini Fountain, built in 1628, is one of the most visited sites in Heraklion and a central meeting point for both locals and tourists. Depending on how restoration work progresses, visitors should check for any temporary access restrictions around the fountain area. Lions Square remains easily reachable on foot from the port and the main shopping street, Dedalou Street.
