Back to newsThe Region of Crete is presenting the theatrical performance "Nikos Xylouris: The Archangel of Crete," a show dedicated to one of Crete's most beloved musicians and cultural icons. Nikos Xylouris (1936-1980) was a legendary Cretan lyra player and singer whose music became deeply tied to Greek identity and resistance. The production is part of the regional government's summer cultural program and will be staged at three locations across the island: Archanes, a well-preserved village south of Heraklion; Frangokastello, the historic Venetian fortress on the southern coast of Chania; and Ierapetra, the southernmost city in Europe on the eastern coast. Tourists interested in Cretan music and heritage are encouraged to attend. Check the Region of Crete's official cultural calendar for exact dates and showtimes at each venue.
