Back to newsOn Friday morning, Greek coast guard authorities rescued 60 migrants who arrived by boat at Kalos Limenas, a small coastal village on the southern coast of Crete. The rescue operation was carried out without reported injuries. Kalos Limenas, located on the Messara Bay roughly 70 kilometers south of Heraklion, is a quiet area known for its beach and the nearby ancient site of Lebena.
Migration arrivals along the southern Cretan coastline have been occurring with some regularity. For tourists, these events typically have no direct impact on travel or access to local areas. Coast guard and police handle operations efficiently and away from tourist zones. Visitors to southern Crete can continue to enjoy the region normally. If traveling near coastal areas in the south, be aware that occasional temporary police presence may be visible.
