Chania Approves Study for Four New Breakwaters in Kolympari

Monday, 29 June 2026/SourceHaniotika Nea/1 min read
The Chania Port Committee has approved a study for the construction of four new breakwaters in Kolympari, a small coastal village on the western tip of Crete, approximately 25 km west of Chania town. The project is a response to ongoing coastal erosion that has been gradually affecting the shoreline in this area. The approval of the study marks the first formal step in the planning process, with construction expected to follow in subsequent phases pending further administrative and funding approvals. Kolympari is known for its quiet beach, the Gonias Monastery, and its position along the E75 coastal road. Visitors to the area should be aware that beach conditions near the village may show signs of erosion. No disruption to access roads or tourist facilities is expected at this stage.
