Heraklion water works cause traffic disruptions on Democracy Avenue

Friday, 19 June 2026/SourceFlashnews/1 min read
Water network replacement works are ongoing in Heraklion, carried out by the local water utility DEYAH. The works are taking place along Leoforos Dimokratias (Democracy Avenue) and the streets of Mina Georgiadis and Sklavokampou. Traffic restrictions are in effect on Monday to allow crews to continue replacing aging water supply infrastructure in these areas. Visitors driving in central Heraklion should expect lane closures or detours along these routes and are advised to allow extra travel time or use alternative streets. The works are part of a broader infrastructure upgrade program for the city's water distribution network. No disruption to water supply for tourists staying in the area has been reported.
