European Universities Converge in Cretan Village for Collaborative Summit

Tuesday, 2 June 2026/SourceHaniotika Nea/1 min read
The village of Voukolies, in the Municipality of Platanias on Crete's northwestern coast, is currently hosting an international gathering bringing together representatives from ten universities and organizations across seven European countries. The meeting is taking place at the local Polykentro (community center) as part of a European collaborative program. Voukolies is located inland from the town of Platanias, roughly 25 kilometers east of Chania. While the event is focused on academic and institutional exchange rather than public attendance, it reflects the growing role of smaller Cretan communities as venues for European cultural and educational initiatives. Visitors traveling through the Platanias area may notice increased international presence in the region during this period.
