Back to newsSafety barriers are being installed along the Venetian Walls in Heraklion following an incident in the early hours of this morning, when a 19-year-old fell from the historic fortifications. The Venetian Walls, built between the 15th and 17th centuries, are a popular landmark and walking route for visitors exploring the old city. Authorities are responding by adding railings to reduce the risk of falls along the wall perimeter. Tourists planning to walk or photograph the walls should expect some sections to be temporarily restricted or under construction during the installation work. As always, visitors are advised to stay on marked paths and avoid climbing or sitting on unprotected edges of the fortifications, particularly after dark.
