New roundabout construction in Gazi disrupts Heraklion area traffic

Thursday, 2 July 2026/SourceGoogle News/1 min read
Roadworks are underway in Gazi, a town located just west of Heraklion along the northern coastal road, as crews construct a new roundabout. The project is causing temporary traffic restrictions in the area, which may affect drivers traveling between Heraklion city center and popular destinations further west such as Rethymno or the beaches of the Heraklion regional unit. Tourists renting a car or using taxis should expect possible delays or detours near the Gazi junction. It is advisable to allow extra travel time when passing through this area and to follow local signage directing traffic around the construction zone. The new roundabout is expected to improve long-term traffic flow once completed.
