Chania Approves Major Renovation for Mournies Square and Beyond

Wednesday, 20 May 2026/SourceFlashnews/1 min read
The municipality of Chania has signed a contract for the renovation of Mournies Square, a neighborhood located southeast of the city center. The announcement was made during a recent Chania Municipal Council session, where the mayor also outlined upcoming urban improvement projects. Next in line are the redevelopment of Tzanakaki Street, one of the main commercial arteries running through central Chania, and the Koum Kapi waterfront area, a popular seaside spot near the old Venetian walls. These projects are part of a broader push to upgrade public spaces using secured municipal funding. Visitors to Chania should expect some construction activity in these areas over the coming months. Koum Kapi in particular is a favorite spot for swimming and evening dining, so tourists planning to visit may want to check local conditions before heading there.
