Child Critically Injured After Falling Into Ravine in Eastern Crete

Sunday, 31 May 2026/SourceFlashnews/1 min read
A serious accident occurred in the Lasithi region of eastern Crete when an 11-year-old child fell into a six-meter ravine and sustained severe injuries. The child was taken to Agios Nikolaos General Hospital, where a radiologist came in off-schedule to assist with the emergency care. Agios Nikolaos is the main hospital serving the Lasithi prefecture. Visitors exploring the rugged terrain of eastern Crete, including popular areas around the Lasithi Plateau and coastal paths near Agios Nikolaos, are reminded to stay on marked trails and keep a close watch on children near cliff edges and steep drops. Rocky terrain in this region can be deceptively unstable, particularly in summer when dry conditions affect ground surfaces. Always wear appropriate footwear when hiking and avoid approaching unfenced cliff edges.
