She was accompanied by her husband, Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence. The visit marked the culmination of commemorative events held in the region, taking place in a deeply emotional atmosphere. The Commonwealth War Cemetery, located in the Souda Bay area near Chania, is the final resting place of over 1,500 British, Australian, New Zealand, and other Allied servicemen. The site is open to the public year-round and is one of the most significant historical landmarks in western Crete. Visitors are welcome to pay their respects. The cemetery is well-maintained and free to enter, located approximately 5 kilometers east of Chania city center.
