Hersonissos residents demand dialogue on KTEO development

Wednesday, 10 June 2026/SourceCretaOne/1 min read
Residents and local organizations in the Municipality of Hersonissos, east of Heraklion, are continuing demonstrations at the Crete Regional Authority headquarters over a planned development at the site of the former vehicle inspection center (KTEO). Protesters are calling for immediate dialogue with authorities and clear official answers about the proposed structure. The mobilizations reflect ongoing tension between local communities and regional decision-makers regarding land use in the area. For tourists, the demonstrations are taking place at administrative buildings and are not expected to affect access to beaches, attractions, or the main road network along the north coast. Hersonissos remains fully open to visitors. Travelers passing through the area may notice small gatherings near regional government offices but should experience no disruption to their stay or travel plans.
