Foreign hiker evacuated from Mount Giouchtas after injury

A foreign hiker was injured near the trail on Mount Giouchtas, located in the Heraklion regional unit of central Crete. Emergency services responded quickly, with six firefighters from the 3rd Special Disaster Response Unit (EMAK) deploying two vehicles to the scene. The injured hiker was safely evacuated from the trail and transferred to an EKAB ambulance for further medical care. Hikers planning to visit Mount Giouchtas should be aware that the trails can present uneven terrain and require appropriate footwear and preparation. It is advisable to carry a fully charged mobile phone, inform someone of your planned route, and bring sufficient water, especially during warmer months. The mountain is a popular destination near the village of Archanes, roughly 15 kilometers south of Heraklion.
