Princess Anne, the Princess Royal, is visiting Chania to attend commemorations marking the Battle of Crete. The annual event honors the 1941 battle, one of World War II's most significant engagements, in which Allied and Cretan forces fought a fierce defence against German paratroopers. During her visit, the Princess will tour the Naval Museum of Crete in Chania, which houses permanent exhibits dedicated to the battle, including weapons, documents, and personal accounts from survivors. The museum is located in the old Venetian harbour area and is open to the public. Tourists in Chania during the commemorations can expect ceremonial events, increased security presence around official venues, and possible temporary road closures near the harbour. The Battle of Crete memorial events typically take place around May 20-21 each year and include wreath-laying ceremonies and military parades open to visitors.
