Crete Fuel Prices Surge to 2.50 Euros Per Liter Across Greece

Monday, 18 May 2026/SourceCretaOne/1 min read
Fuel prices in Crete have risen sharply, with unleaded petrol now reaching 2.39 euros per liter in Heraklion. Across Greek islands, prices are touching 2.50 euros per liter, and no station anywhere in Greece is currently selling below that national floor. This follows broader fuel price increases affecting the whole country. For tourists renting a car in Crete, this is a practical consideration when budgeting your trip. A typical rental car with a 50-liter tank will cost around 120 euros to fill from empty in Heraklion, and more in smaller island destinations. If you are driving longer routes, such as from Heraklion to Chania or exploring the eastern coast toward Sitia, factor higher fuel costs into your plans. Comparing prices between stations, particularly in larger towns, may yield small savings.
