The event focused on the sinking of the Tanais, a vessel that carried Jewish residents of Crete who were deported by Nazi forces during World War II. The ship was torpedoed in 1944, killing hundreds of people. The conference brought together historians and researchers to examine this largely overlooked chapter of Cretan and Jewish history.
