Chania: Central Beach Closed for Swimming Due to Sewage Pollution

Friday, 27 March 2026/CretaOne/1

The central beach in Chania, Crete, has been closed for swimming due to sewage pollution. The ban is in effect until the water quality is restored, as confirmed by the Directorate of Public Health and Social Welfare of the Chania Regional Unit.

The decision was made after an on-site health inspection by the Directorate of Public Health and Social Welfare. The inspection found that the water quality at the Koum-Kapi beach was not suitable for swimming.

The closure of the beach is a precautionary measure to protect the health and safety of swimmers. The authorities will continue to monitor the water quality and lift the ban once it is safe for swimming again.
