A historical seminar titled "The Cretan Gendarmerie: From Ottoman Rule to the Cretan State" will take place on Saturday, June 27, 2026 at 7:30 PM at the Chania Cultural Center (Pneumatiko Kentro). The event explores the history of Crete's police force during the Ottoman period and the era of the autonomous Cretan State, which preceded the island's union with Greece in 1913. This is a free public event open to anyone with an interest in Cretan history. The Cultural Center is located in central Chania, within easy walking distance of the Old Town and Venetian Harbor.
