Back to newsGreek health authorities are warning that extreme heat poses serious risks, particularly for vulnerable individuals. The vice president of the Hellenic Society of Hypertension cautions that people over 70, or those with heart or kidney conditions, respiratory diseases, or who take diuretic medications face elevated danger during heatwaves.
For tourists visiting Crete this summer, the advice is practical: stay hydrated, avoid outdoor activity between 12:00 and 17:00, seek air-conditioned spaces during peak heat hours, and wear light, breathable clothing. Watch for warning signs including dizziness, rapid heartbeat, headache, and confusion. If travelling with elderly companions or those with chronic conditions, plan your sightseeing for early morning or evening. In an emergency, call 166 for ambulance services in Greece.
