The epicenter was located approximately 58 kilometers west-southwest of Palaiochora, a coastal town on the southwestern tip of Crete. At this magnitude, the tremor was very weak and unlikely to have been felt by most people, particularly those further inland or in popular tourist areas such as Heraklion, Chania, or Rethymno. No damage or disruption to infrastructure, transport, or tourist sites is expected. Visitors to Crete can continue their plans without concern. Minor seismic activity of this level is common in the eastern Mediterranean region and poses no safety risk to travelers.
