Back to newsThe protective fencing surrounding the Lions' Fountain in Heraklion has been removed, restoring full public access to one of Crete's most iconic landmarks. The Morosini Fountain, located in Lions' Square in the heart of Heraklion's old town, had been enclosed during restoration or maintenance works. With the barriers now gone, visitors can once again approach the 17th-century Venetian fountain up close, making it fully accessible for sightseeing and photography. Lions' Square remains a central meeting point in Heraklion, surrounded by cafes and within walking distance of the Archaeological Museum and the old port. Tourists visiting the city can now enjoy an unobstructed view of this historic monument, which dates to 1628 and is considered a symbol of the Venetian era in Crete.
