Dashcam Captures Near-Miss Head-On Collision on Crete Mountain Road

A dashcam video circulating on social media captured a near-miss collision on a road near Siteia, in eastern Crete. A driver overtook another vehicle at high speed while entering a blind curve, coming within seconds of a head-on crash with oncoming traffic. No collision occurred and no injuries were reported. The incident is a reminder of road conditions commonly found across Crete, where mountain and coastal routes frequently feature sharp, unmarked blind curves. Speeding and dangerous overtaking remain among the leading causes of road accidents on the island. Tourists driving in Crete, particularly on rural roads in the Lasithi region around Siteia, are advised to drive at reduced speeds on winding roads, avoid overtaking near curves, and stay alert to vehicles crossing the center line.
