Back to newsCrete's Regional Civil Protection Authority has issued a very high fire danger alert for the prefectures of Rethymno, Heraklion, and Lasithi on Tuesday, July 7, 2026. The warning is based on the national Fire Risk Forecast Map issued by the General Secretariat of Civil Protection.
Tourists visiting or traveling through these areas should take the following precautions: avoid lighting fires, barbecues, or discarding cigarettes in or near vegetation. Do not park vehicles on dry grass. If you spot a fire, call the emergency number 112 immediately.
Hikers and those planning excursions into forested or rural areas of central and eastern Crete should reconsider or postpone activities for the day. Stay informed through local authorities and check conditions before heading into nature reserves or mountain trails.
