Back to newsHeraklion's historic Neoria, the Ottoman-era arsenal complex located along the city's waterfront, is set for a major transformation following approval of an 18 million euro redevelopment project. The Central Archaeological Council has greenlit the renovation plan, and implementation is now underway.
The Neoria, a series of vaulted stone warehouses dating back centuries and sitting at the edge of the old Venetian harbor, will be restored and repurposed as a cultural and public space. The project aims to revitalize Heraklion's seafront area near the port entrance, making it more accessible and attractive to visitors.
Tourists already exploring the nearby Koules Fortress and the old harbor can expect the surrounding waterfront to become a more complete destination once works progress. No timeline for completion has been announced yet, but the funding and approvals are now confirmed.
