Back to newsHot weather is returning to Crete this week, with temperatures expected to reach up to 37°C (99°F) in the early days of the week. After a brief cooler period, the heat is building again across the island. Visitors should stay well hydrated, avoid prolonged sun exposure during peak hours between 12:00 and 16:00, and apply high-SPF sunscreen. Lightweight, breathable clothing is recommended for outdoor sightseeing. Beach conditions will be ideal, but sea water temperatures remain warm, offering little relief from the heat. Those planning hikes or visits to archaeological sites such as Knossos or Samaria Gorge should start early in the morning to avoid the hottest part of the day. Keep water bottles filled and seek shade regularly throughout the day.
