At the historic harbor of Chania, an old wooden fishing boat named "Loulou" (registry L.X. 2875) sits forgotten in the local boatyard. The vessel, whose affectionate nickname might suggest a pet or a woman's name, is one of many traditional Cretan caiques that once worked these waters. The Chania waterfront boatyard, known locally as the karnagio, remains an active repair and storage area near the Venetian harbor. Visitors exploring the old port area may spot traditional wooden boats in various states of restoration alongside the working fishing fleet. The Chania Venetian harbor and its surrounding area are among the most visited landmarks in Crete, offering a glimpse into the island's deep maritime heritage. The harbor is open to visitors year-round and is a short walk from the old town center.
