Emergency services were mobilized in Crete to assist a man who encountered difficulties inside a gorge. Search and rescue teams responded to the incident, which took place in one of the island's many scenic ravines. Gorge hiking is a popular activity in Crete, attracting thousands of visitors each year, with routes such as Samaria, Imbros, and Aradena among the most frequented. Tourists planning gorge hikes should take precautions: wear sturdy footwear, carry sufficient water, inform someone of your planned route and expected return time, and check weather conditions before setting out. Gorges can become dangerous quickly, particularly in strong heat or following rainfall. If you encounter an emergency while hiking, contact the Greek emergency number 112. Guided hikes are recommended for those unfamiliar with the terrain.
