A Greek passenger repatriated from the cruise ship MV Hondius, which recorded confirmed cases of Hantavirus on board, has been admitted to Attikon Hospital in Athens for precautionary isolation. Hantavirus is a rare viral disease typically transmitted through contact with infected rodents or their droppings, not through person-to-person contact. Greek health authorities are monitoring the situation and taking preventive measures. At this time, there is no reported risk to tourists in Crete or elsewhere in Greece from this isolated case. Visitors should follow standard hygiene precautions, avoid contact with wild rodents, and consult a doctor promptly if they develop fever, fatigue, or respiratory symptoms after potential exposure in rural or outdoor environments.
