Back to newsStudents from schools in the Platanias municipality have created paintings honoring the 85th anniversary of the Battle of Crete, with works now on display at the Platanias Town Hall. The exhibition showcases artwork inspired by historical memory of the battle, which took place in May 1941 and is one of the most significant events in Cretan history. The pieces were created with encouragement from teachers and school directors, reflecting themes of sensitivity and respect for the island's wartime past. Visitors to the Platanias area, located on the northern coast of western Crete near Chania, can stop by the Town Hall to view the exhibition. Entry is free. The Battle of Crete is commemorated each year around May 20, and several related events and memorials take place across the island during this period.
