Back to newsGreece's food safety authority (EFET) has issued a recall for a French-origin Brie cheese following an alert through the EU's Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF). The product was found to contain enterotoxins produced by the bacterium Staphylococcus aureus, which can cause food poisoning symptoms including nausea, vomiting, and stomach cramps within hours of consumption. If you have purchased Brie cheese recently in Crete, check the label for French origin and avoid consuming it until more details on the specific brand and lot numbers are released by EFET. Supermarkets are required to remove the product from shelves. When in doubt, ask staff at your local market or accommodation. This recall applies across Greece, not just Crete.
