Rescue Halted on Mount Olympus as Severe Weather Persists

Friday, 22 May 2026/SourceCretaOne/1 min read
Search and rescue operations on Mount Olympus have been suspended due to severe weather conditions. A 25-year-old Spanish mountaineer went missing on the mountain and authorities have been unable to continue the search while poor weather persists. Teams are standing by and will resume operations as soon as conditions improve. Note that this incident takes place on Mount Olympus in northern mainland Greece, not on Crete. Visitors planning to hike Mount Olympus should monitor weather forecasts closely before setting out, inform someone of their planned route and expected return time, and consider hiring a certified local guide. Mountain conditions can change rapidly, and even experienced hikers should take extra precautions during unsettled weather periods.
