The Samaria Gorge in the Chania region of Crete is closed today, Thursday, June 19. The closure applies to both entrances of the gorge and has been announced by the Greek Organisation for Natural Environment and Climate Change (OKEPA). Visitors planning to hike the gorge should postpone their visit and check for updates before heading to either the Xyloskalo entrance in the White Mountains or the Agia Roumeli exit on the southern coast. The gorge is one of Europe's longest and a major attraction in western Crete, drawing thousands of hikers each season. No reopening date has been confirmed in the announcement. Tourists are advised to contact local tour operators or check official channels for the latest status before making travel arrangements to the area.
