Back to newsVisitors planning to hike Samaria Gorge on Friday, June 12 should exercise caution due to rainfall affecting the area. OFYPEKA, the body responsible for managing the gorge, has issued a weather advisory and recommends that hikers take individual protective measures before entering. Wet conditions can make the rocky terrain significantly more slippery, increasing the risk of falls along the 16 km trail. Visitors are advised to wear sturdy, waterproof footwear, carry rain gear, and check conditions at the entrance before proceeding. The gorge remains open but staff may restrict access if conditions deteriorate further. If you have a hike planned for today, contact the Xyloskalo entrance station or check OFYPEKA's official channels for real-time updates before setting out from Chania or the Omalos plateau.
