Back to newsA citizen safety group called "SOS Road Crimes - Crete Team" has raised serious complaints about reportedly dangerous traffic modifications at the Lygaria-Made interchange on the BOAK, the main east-west highway running across northern Crete. The group alleges that recent changes to traffic flow at this junction create hazardous conditions for drivers. The BOAK is the primary road connecting Heraklion with both eastern Crete (Agios Nikolaos, Elounda, Sitia) and western destinations (Rethymno, Chania). Tourists driving between these regions pass through this area regularly. Until authorities address the complaints and potentially modify the junction layout, drivers are advised to stay alert, reduce speed when approaching the Lygaria-Made interchange, and follow all posted road signs carefully.
