Back to newsA new regional medical clinic has been approved for Askyfou, a village in the Sfakia area of the Chania regional unit in western Crete. The ministerial order establishing the clinic has already been signed, following an initiative by Deputy Minister Sevi Voloudaki. Askyfou sits on the Omalos plateau road, a key route used by hikers heading to or from the Samaria Gorge and other White Mountains trails. Until now, this mountainous inland area had limited medical infrastructure. For visitors exploring the Sfakia region, the new clinic means basic healthcare access will be available closer to remote hiking destinations, reducing the need to travel back to Chania city for minor medical attention. The clinic is described as a significant development for the broader Sfakia municipality.
