Two rescued from separate drowning incidents at Chania beach

Two separate drowning incidents occurred this morning at Koum Kapi beach in Chania, on the northwest coast of Crete. In both cases, a bystander intervened quickly before emergency services arrived, helping pull the individuals from the water. An ambulance from EKAB, the Greek national emergency medical service, was dispatched to the scene. Koum Kapi is a popular urban beach located close to Chania's old town, frequently visited by tourists and locals alike. This incident is a reminder that even calm-looking coastal waters can pose serious risks. Visitors swimming at Chania beaches are advised to stay within flagged zones, avoid swimming alone, and pay attention to posted warnings. When a lifeguard is not present, exercise extra caution.
