Back to newsThe historic Chronaki mansion in Heraklion, a striking example of Ottoman-era architecture originally belonging to Bey Rasich Asprakis, is moving into a new phase of restoration. Authorities have selected a contractor to carry out detailed studies for the building's full rehabilitation and transformation into a museum. The mansion, one of the most recognizable heritage buildings in the city center, has long been a landmark despite its deteriorated condition. Once restored, it will open to the public as a cultural museum, offering visitors a window into Heraklion's layered Ottoman and Venetian past. No opening date has been announced yet, as the project remains in the planning and study phase. Tourists interested in Cretan history can currently explore the surrounding old town on foot while restoration work progresses over the coming years.
